中国的古钱币“大泉五十”流传久远，这枚古钱币是西汉王莽所铸造。西汉晚期，王莽篡位，建立新朝，先后对货币制度进行4次改革，虽然都以失败告终，却留下了一批制作精良的钱币。

本品面文“大泉五十”四字，篆书书体，直读。其字誊写工致有加，字形巨细适中，整体结构规范协调，笔划横直直立，凸显庄重端美，书相威风凛凛威风凛凛典型，本色书风神韵。本品铸制十分精整，其直径约为2.85cm毫米，重约8.6克，铸体较之尺度品更显料足而厚实，类折二巨细。复观铸相，方正圆矩，坦平地章，穿轮更是干清洁净。其字廓纹饰皆深竣挺秀，鼓凸自然有度，钱文笔划较为纤细，清晰可辨，缘接地章浑圆。显而易见，其铸相特征典型，铸制品质乃属优等，彰显了王莽铸币精造之特色，正是其时官炉出品，开门铸相，毫无疑问。
